Our Blood Centre is a specialized facility that
collects, tests, processes, stores, and distributes donated blood and blood components. It plays
a critical role in ensuring a safe and adequate supply of quality blood components for
transfusion to patients in need. We have a 100% voluntary blood collection.
Some key features :
1. Blood collection: In house and outdoor blood donation camps where hundred
percent voluntary blood donations are taken by Trained healthcare professionals
following strict safety protocols and using sterile techniques. Donors are screened for
eligibility, which typically includes age, weight, overall health status, and absence of
certain risk factors.
2. Testing and processing: After collection, donated blood undergoes rigorous testing
to ensure its safety and compatibility for transfusion. This includes screening for
transfusion transmissible diseases, such as HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, and Malaria.
Additionally, Blood Components like Packed Red Blood cells ,Fresh Frozen Plasma,
Cryoprecipiate and Platelets are prepared under optimal conditions. Single Donor
Platelets are also collected for transfusion in patients with thrombocytopenia.
3. Blood storage and inventory management: The blood components are then stored
in specialized storage facilities that maintain the optimal temperature and conditions for
the preservation of blood components. This includes refrigeration at 2-6°C for Packed
Red Blood Cells, freezing for plasma and incubator-agitator for platelets. Inventory
management systems are implemented to track the available blood types, quantities,
and expiration dates to avoid any wastage of units.
4. Blood product distribution: The blood and blood components are then supplied to
hospitals and healthcare facilities where transfusions are required. They work closely
with healthcare professionals to fulfill requests for specific blood types and quantities.
Emergency situations may require prompt delivery of blood products to ensure patientcare.
5. Quality control and regulatory compliance: We strictly adhere to quality control
measures and regulatory guidelines to ensure the safety and integrity of the blood
supply. This includes compliance with national and international standards, regular
inspections, staff training, and maintaining accurate records.
6. Donor recruitment and education: W
e actively engage in donor recruitment and education initiatives to raise awareness
about the importance of blood donation and encourage eligible individuals to donate.
They provide information on donation eligibility, the donation process, and the impact of
blood donations in saving lives.
7. Research and development: Some Blood Centres are involved in research and
development activities to advance transfusion medicine, improve blood testing
techniques, and enhance the safety and effectiveness of blood transfusions. This
contributes to ongoing advancements in the field and helps optimize patient care.
The operations of a Blood Centre are crucial for the healthcare system, as they ensure a
reliable supply of blood and blood products to meet the transfusion needs of patients, including those with medical conditions, undergoing surgeries, or experiencing emergencies. By facilitating blood donation and ensuring the safety and availability of blood products, Blood Centre contributes significantly to saving lives and improving patient outcomes.
