Medical Education places a great onus on anyone pursuing it, because not only does it give one power to save a life, but it may also result in an action which takes a life; It was therefore, correctly observed by Mark Reid that “You study to prepare for the day when you are the only thing between a patient and the grave”. This places on a Medical Institute a moral responsibility that must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of one’s own frailty.
The medical faculty at Adesh Medical College & Hospital has been chosen keeping this in mind and they are repeatedly reminded of this onerous task. It is the aim of the Institute to inculcate among the students who walk down the corridors of Adesh to learn the nuances of the art and science of Medicine. To treat the patients with compassion and empathy and develop bedside manners that reassures and comforts the patients while remaining honest about their diagnosis. Vocal tones, body language, openness, presence, honesty, and concealment of attitude are specially developed to ensure that the patient does not feel unsatisfied, worried, frightened, or alone.
The curriculum is arranged in such a way as to make attending to the sick an interesting, albeit a humbling experience. A great deal of stress is laid on development of a physician who can observe, record, tabulate, communicate and use his faculties to – Learn to see, learn to hear, learn to feel, learn to smell, and know that by practice alone you can become expert.
I wish that our students become not only good doctors but also great and patriotic citizens and serve the society with dedication.
Introduction
“Lt. Gen (Dr) Navdeep Singh Lamba is a graduate and post graduate from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College Pune. He further did his post Doctoral two years training in Neuro Anesthesia from AIIMS New Delhi (1998-2000). He has served in the Armed Forces Medical Services MOD, for 38 yrs at its various tertiary care hospitals and training Institutes. He has a vast teaching experience of over 25 years, of which 10 years he was Head of Department of Anesthesia, Neuro anesthesia & critical care at Army Hospital Lucknow, Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi& Command Hospital (WC) Chandi Mandir. In the executive appointments Lt. Gen N S Lamba held many prestigious appointments as:
• Director- 92 Base Hospital Srinagar -J&K (600 Bed Hospital)
• Dy Director & Dean Academics – Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi.(1500 bed Hospital)
• Director Hospitals- For 36 Hospitals located in Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP, Goa, TN & Karnataka.
• Director – Army Medical Training College-Lucknow training centre for- Medical Officers, Nurses & Paramedics.
He is a very keen professional & academician. He has been examiner for under graduate, post graduate & DM students. He has to his credit publications in both Indian & International journals. He has attended numerous National & Inter National conferences as invited resource faculty. Lt. Gen (Dr) N S Lamba reached the highest rank possible in the Armed Force Medical services before retiring in Nov’ 2020. Lt. Gen (Dr) N S Lamba over the 35 yrs of services was acknowledge by the chief of Army staff on six occasions by Awarding him commendation Medals, for services beyond the call of duty & professional excellence of highest order. Lt. Gen (Dr) N S Lamba due to his out standing professionalism & academic excellence was appointed by the his Excellency the President of Indian as PHS (Presidents Honorary Surgeon) in 2020.
Academic Achievements
a. Stood first in MD Anesthesia Pune University 1990.
b. Member selection committee for selection of new faculty for AIIMS- N, Delhi
c. Examiner AIIMS for DM- Neuro anesthesia.
d. Received the life time achievement award for outstanding contribution from the society of Neuro anesthesia & critical care (2022)
