Adesh Medical College Observes National Dengue Day 2026 with Awareness and Anti-Larval Activities

The Department of Community Medicine, Adesh Medical College & Hospital, Mohri, observed National Dengue Day on 16th May 2026 with the aim of spreading awareness regarding dengue prevention and promoting effective vector control measures in the community.

As part of the activities, an anti-larval initiative was carried out through the release of Gambusia fish in nearby ponds and stagnant water bodies. These fish help control mosquito breeding by feeding on mosquito larvae and serve as an eco-friendly vector control measure.

The department also organized a health education session for housekeeping workers, GDAs, labourers, and gardeners. Faculty members and postgraduate residents highlighted the importance of cleanliness, prevention of water stagnation, proper waste disposal, use of personal protective measures, and early identification of dengue symptoms.

In addition, the Department proposed a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) focusing on sustainable measures to prevent mosquito breeding, including regular surveillance, anti-larval activities, drainage maintenance, fogging when required, and continuous health education.

The event witnessed active participation from faculty members, postgraduate residents, interns, hospital staff, housekeeping workers, gardeners, labourers, and supporting staff, reflecting the institution’s commitment towards prevention of vector-borne diseases and public health promotion.
