



To mark the global observance of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) from 1st to 7th August 2025, Adesh Medical College & Hospital organized a week-long series of awareness and educational activities across various departments. The theme for this year, “ Priortise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems , was promoted through interactive sessions, demonstrations, and competitions aimed at strengthening support for breastfeeding in both hospital and community settings.
The events were collaboratively conducted by the Department of Community Medicine, Department of Paediatrics, and Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, with enthusiastic participation from postgraduate residents, faculty members, and interns.
🗓️ Schedule of Events:
1st August – Paediatrics OPD & Immunization Centre
Led by Dr. Neha Gaur (PGY-2, Community Medicine) and Dr. Gaurav Vashisht (PGY-2, Paediatrics)
Focus: Importance of exclusive breastfeeding
Audience interaction and counselling conducted by residents and faculty.
2nd August – Paediatrics Ward
Led by Dr. Neha Gaur (PGY-2, Community Medicine) and Dr. Nikhil (PGY-1, Paediatrics)
Focus: Demonstration and counselling on proper attachment techniques during breastfeeding.
4th August – Obstetrics OPD
Led by Dr. Neha Gaur (PGY-2, Community Medicine) and Dr. Parhlad (PGY-1, Paediatrics)
Focus: Benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child
Included myth-busting discussions with active participation from expectant and new mothers.
5th August – Postnatal Ward
Led by Dr. Neha Gaur (PGY-2, Community Medicine) and Dr. Nandita (PGY-1, Paediatrics)
Focus: Teaching various breastfeeding positions for comfort and effective feeding.
6th August – Paediatrics Ward
Led by Dr. Neha Gaur (PGY-2, Community Medicine) and Dr. Nidhi (PGY-1, Paediatrics)
Focus: Expressing breast milk — techniques, benefits, and practical demonstrations.
7th August – Culmination Day at Paediatrics OPD
Counselling Session on breastfeeding and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), conducted by:

Dr. Neha Gaur (PGY-2, Community Medicine)
KMC was emphasized as a life-saving and bonding-enhancing method for low birth weight and preterm babies.
A Poster Making Competition was also held, open to all, encouraging creativity and advocacy. Participants presented posters highlighting breastfeeding awareness, its benefits, and community support.
Certificates of Merit and Appreciation were awarded to all participants and organizers.
