Are Your Kidneys Healthy? Get Checked! 🩺
On the occasion of World Kidney Day, a health talk and free screening camp was organized on March 13, 2025, by the Department of Community Medicine and the Nephrology Department at Adesh Medical College & Hospital. The primary objective of this event was to raise awareness about early detection and prevention of kidney diseases.
This year’s theme, “Are Your Kidneys Healthy? Get Checked, Protect Your Kidney Health”, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in preventing kidney-related complications.
Renowned nephrologist Dr. Arvind Gupta highlighted the significance of kidney health, stating that Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) affects nearly 850 million people worldwide. If left undiagnosed and untreated, CKD can lead to kidney failure, causing severe complications and even premature death.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Vikrant Prabhakar and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Shavinder Singh, Senior Resident Dr. Monu Dalal and PG Resident Dr. Vijay Vivek Sharma educated the attendees on kidney function and risk factors. Dr. Monu Dalal elaborated on harmful lifestyle habits such as lack of exercise, alcohol consumption, smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity, which severely impact kidney health. He emphasized the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and yoga in maintaining kidney health.
Additionally, from the Department of Medicine, Dr. Rashmi Ojha shed light on the importance of organ donation, explaining how a single donor can save up to eight lives by donating organs after death.
Experts stressed that by adopting a healthier lifestyle, one can prevent not only kidney diseases but also other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like heart disease, stroke, respiratory illnesses, and cancer. They also warned against the self-medication of painkillers and other drugs without a doctor’s prescription, as it can severely damage kidney function.
Regular health check-ups play a crucial role in preventing chronic diseases, ensuring early detection and timely intervention.
The event witnessed active participation from the Community Medicine Department, including Associate Professor Dr. Rajan Kaushik and other medical professionals.
