The Microbiology Department endeavors to train the medical students so that evolve into a Model Medical Graduate who is competent at identifying and treating the infectious diseases during the clinical practice. The department plays key role in diagnostics, Hospital Infection Control Program and Anti- Microbial Stewardship Program.

The department has a demo room, a practical lab, a museum, a library, and a research lab for students. The department has competent faculty, Technical staff, automated equipment, and experience in diagnosing infectious diseases at the hospital lab facility. The department has a well-equipped BSL-2 level Molecular lab for diagnosis of infections by Real-time PCR. During the Covid-19 pandemic, this lab and its staff played a key role in the diagnosis of extending its services to the community.
